Collection: Variscite

At a glance, Variscite may appear to be a green version of turquoise.  That's because it almost is.  Variscite is an Aluminum Phosphate mineral, but lacks the copper that would essentially make it turquoise. The result is a much rarer gem, that has a nice color range of different green shades, and is more durable than turquoise. This material was mined long ago in northern Utah, and supplies are limited. Many pieces are small, but occasional larger chunks are available. Variscite is prized in making jewelry, and polishes to a high shine. Some of our pieces may exhibit patterns of green in the white matrix, and some lucky chunks may have the rare and sought-after black spiderweb pattern.
